VILE has returned, and for the first time, Carmen Sandiego and ACME share an adversary. The greatest thief in the world must find the syndicate before they can carry out their next major theft in a unique and short-lived partnership. Whether it's in the classic mode "The Acme Files" or the narrative-driven main campaign, both novice and experienced investigators are encouraged to test their detective abilities.

The notorious master thief Carmen Sandiego has temporarily joined ACME. She is an important, although dangerous, ally because of her deep understanding of VILE's activities and her unmatched espionage talents. The quality of her instruments determines how good a thief is. Track suspects and uncover secret clues by gliding across rooftops, battling between buildings, and switching between night vision, UV, and thermal.
