Good luck Commander
The world's next great shipping route will be the frozen Siberian coastline when the Arctic ice recedes due to global warming. By avoiding key chokepoints like the Suez Canal and the Strait of Gibraltar, ships using the Northern Sea Route (NSR) from Shanghai to Copenhagen cover only one-third of the previous route.
The Russian President and the Ministry of Defense regard this new, warming theater as a means of reviving national pride; most Westerners feel at ease with it popping up on their maps. The Russian parliament is emboldened to proclaim that their rules pertaining to this new canal transcend the United Nations Law of the Sea once investments and military constructions are started to transform this desolate sea passage into an arctic kill zone. The president of the United States and the prime minister of Canada respond by deciding to contest Russia's territorial claims.
